Bem-vindos a Portugal, Delegados da Jornada Mundial da Juventude! | Welcome World Youth Day Delegates to Portugal!
This “Rosary” website to teaches anyone “how-to-pray” the prayers of the Rosary in Portuguese with images that will assist with each Mystery of the 20 Mysteries of the Rosary.
This project was made possible due to the leadership, generosity, and Spiritual Direction of Padre Nuno Rocha, who has been preaching on the Camino to Santiago in Portugal, the apex of many global travellers, for 25 years. The prayer text was revised and edited by Pe. Nuno, Pastor of Lapa / S. José on the Atlantic Coast of Portugal and applied in a Community Rosary led by children and by Youth Leaders from World Youth Day.
Padre Nuno’s “convite” from Lapa (Vila do Conde) and S. José (Póvoa de Varzim) is to pilgrims visiting:
the Archdiocese of Braga
Santarém
Fátima
Porto
Vila do Conde
Póvoa de Varzim
Balasar
Viana do Castelo
Ponte de Lima,
and most importantly in 2023 Jornada Mundial da Juventude Lisboa 2023, inspired by the spirit of the important theme of World Youth Day:
«Maria levantou-se e partiu apressadamente» (Lc 1, 39). 1
Meet Padre Nuno in this not-yet-subtitled “entravista” (interview led by Carlos in Portuguese). This pastor from Portugal shares his thoughts on praying the Rosary here:
NOTE: A subtitled version will be available in December once our team has more time to create it! In the meantime, you can get a sense of the language of Portuguese, and test your studies thus far with this discussion on prayer.

MARIAN DEVOTION: THE ROSARY - PARA JOVENS, JMJ 2023
The Rosary is a way of expressing one’s love of Jesus through the hands of Our Lady.
The Rosary prayer when offered before the Holy Mass establishes a very intimate relationship with Jesus through Our Lady.
As a delegate to World Youth Day, you can use this website to participate in the Rosary in Portuguese for pre-World Youth Day events, as well as any pilgrim journeys you wish to take in Portugal in future.
With some dedicated practice, you can master this prayer in Portuguese! (This may seem impossible at first, but with God, all things are possible!)
Learning a prayer text in any language, in fact, unlocks the potential to learn that language, and by praying together, you can immediately overcome the barriers that language can impose.
In the spirit of unity in the Holy Spirit, please find the key prayers you will need to study to pray the Rosary in Portugal.
Again, these prayers were curated by Pe. Nuno Rocha, pastor for 25 years on the Camino to Santiago in Póvoa de Varzim. We thank Padre Nuno and his parish for offering to help others visiting Portugal to learn to pray in Portuguese. We also wish to thank Dr. Carneiro and her team for their assistance with curating the images for this website.
Thank you for visiting and be sure to subscribe for future posts. Video posts of these prayer will be housed on this learning site here: NOSSA SENHORA.

Ó clemente, ó piedosa, ó doce Virgem Maria.
Rogai por nós, Santa Mãe de Deus,
Para que sejamos dignos das promessas de Cristo. Ámen.

NOTE: A Ladainha do MÊS pode muitas vezes mudar dependendo do Calendário Litúrgico. O mês de junho é o mês do Sagrado Coração de Jesus, etc. |
THE LITANY of the MONTH can often change depending on the Liturgical Calendar. The month of June is the month of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, etc.
Pope Francis expands on this Gospel passage in this way:
Mary was motivated by the needs of her elderly cousin. She did not hold back, or remain indifferent. She thought more of others than of herself. And this gave enthusiasm and direction to her life. Each of you can ask: “How do I react to the needs that I see all around me? Do I think immediately of some reason not to get involved? Or do I show interest and willingness to help?” To be sure, you cannot resolve all the problems of the world. Yet you can begin with the problems of those closest to you, with the needs of your own community. Someone once told Mother Teresa: “What you are doing is a mere drop in the ocean”. And she replied: “But if I didn’t do it, that ocean would have one drop less”.
LOCAL NOTES:
On 27 July, S. José Ribamar hosted a mass at 19h00 July 27, 2023 — on the memorial of the Canonization of St. Catherine Labouré (140 Rue du Bac Paris, France), apostle and missionary of the Miraculous Medal (1830) followed by a bilingual Terço at Lapa at 21H30 with public Rosary in Spanish and Portuguese.
This Rosary included the prayer taught to the world by Our Lady who asked these words be imprinted on the medal St. Catherine was to have struck in France and which would become known as the Miraculous Medal: “O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee”.
The prayer itself was to announce the way Our Lady teaches us by her Holy Life how to realize God’s plan in our own lives. (Louise de Marillac).
